Realistically speaking, the Royal Challengers Bangalore did not even need the hat trick against the Rajasthan Royals. All they had to do was get their basics right against a team that is partly paying for its decisions and partly due to misfortune.
The fact that Yusuf Pathan was the top scorer of the innings for the Rajasthan Royals with just twenty-six runs should tell the entire picture. There was simply nowhere that the Royals were intending to go as far as their batting.
Undone by the injuries to Graeme Smith and Dmitri Mascarenhas, they appeared to have taken the blow to heart and even the inspirational Shane Warne failed to work his magic on the team. If Jacques Kallis and the RCB captain, Anil Kumble, enjoyed early success with two wickets each, it was Praveen Kumar that fastened the nails into the coffin as he picked up a hat trick of wickets, of Damien Martyn, Sumit Narwal and Paras Dogra in the seventeenth over of the match to cut short the agony for the Royals.
Shot out for ninety-three, the Royals did not really have a chance against the Bangalore team that has been on a high. Predictably Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey had little trouble in seeing off the paltry total, scoring forty-four and forty-three runs apiece, in eleven overs, the ten wicket haul adding to the Royals’ ignominy.
