Not even the late belligerence from Irfan Pathan could get the Kings XI Punjab on board with winning points as Andrew Symonds stole the show for the Deccan Chargers.
Playing their “home” game at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Deccan Chargers were uplifted by the performances of two former Australian cricketers, including the Deccan Chargers captain. Batting first, the Chargers got their impetus from Gilchrist’s thirty-three.
But it was Andrew Symonds that played decisively for fifty-three runs from thirty-eight balls to get the Chargers to a challenging target of 170, this despite Yuvraj Singh picking up two wickets himself in the course of the innings.
The Kings XI Punjab once again had Ravi Bopara on whom they relied heavily on but found no other takers in the top order to respond to the challenge of the Chargers. Chaminda Vaas once again struck early this time removing the captain, Kumar Sangakkara and Yuvraj Singh after him. As a result, Bopara’s thirty-eight runs otherwise broke up a paltry looking scorecard.
Irfan Pathan did ensure a late order resurgence with a thumping knock of sixty defiant runs from just twenty-nine balls that included as many as five sixes, but it was a little too late as far as the Kings XI Punjab team was concerned as they lost by six runs.
