The match did eventually get closer than expected. But really it was the Delhi Daredevils who were the deserved winners of the third match of the 2010 IPL 3 at Mohali.
The Daredevils captain, Gautam Gambhir, led from the front with a 54 ball 72 that helped the Daredevils sidestep the egg shells in the form of early wickets, reducing the team to 2 down for 10 and then further four down for 79 in the twelfth over.
But it was Gautam’s steady hand and influence that took Daredevils home once the situation became tense with the visitors needing seventeen runs from twelve balls. However, the Daredevils held their nerve despite losing their tired captain.
Mithun Manhas and Dinesh Karthik added their own cameo to the winning efforts. But earlier it was Yo Mahesh and Dirk Nannes who gave the Daredevils the breakthrough against the Kings XI Punjab. The fact that the hosts even managed 142 was great after their game plan derailed after Ravi Bopara’s fifty-six runs at the top.
The Daredevils though need daredevilry on their part to see it through in the end.
