Following India’s defeat to the West Indies rather embarrassingly at Sabina Park, Jamaica in the second ODI, former Pakistan fast bowler and now commentator, Wasim Akram, has slammed Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.
Wasim Akram feels that Twenty20 cricket has ruined the techniques of players such as Rohit Sharma who has shown little staying ability at the crease in recent times. While he was getting runs in the IPL 2 in South Africa for the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, thereafter, he has not been able to produce the form or temperament, especially in the two ODIs in the Caribbean thus far.
Another Indian cricketer that Akram has identified is the under-19 player, Ravindra Jadeja. He may be the ‘rockstar’ in Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL but Jadeja has not found a fan in Akram who believes that players who think they deserve a national merit by competing and showing skills in the Twenty20 format are seriously mistaken.
The former Pakistan captain is critical of choosing players from the Twenty20 format. He believes players must first prove themselves in the limited overs edition on the strength of their skills and not the other way round.
Akram fears that Rohit Sharma and Jadeja are whiling away precious time and opportunity that they have been gifted in the absence of injured players such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina.
The Indian team has a clear message. Pull up your sleeves before you get pulled down.
