Ricky Ponting is apparently not only in troubled waters with the selectors but also, facing the wrath of a furious New Zealand team over ‘lies’ prepetrated about the Haddin- Broom controversy.
Ponting has apparently offended New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori and his team mates by claiming that Vettori had apologised to Brad Haddin via a SMS in regard to the controversial dismissal of Neil Broom during the first one day international. But New Zealand has vehemently denied the claims, and furious at the Australian captain over the tall tales.
Meanwhile Ponting who has been rested forcibly for the next two matches of the Chappell Hadlee Trophy is upset and unwilling to rest even as selectors claim they are only doing it in his rest with the upcoming gruelling schedule over the year. Could Michael Clarke add a spark to the proceedings as the skipper? Could it reveal even more ugly shades to Ponting’s saga?
It is interesting that both Ponting and Clarke have become announced the tied winner for the Allan Border medal last night. While this is Ponting’s fourth medal after winning in 2004, 2006 and 2007, Clarke is the second time winner winning back in 2005 to break Ponting’s streak. Brett Lee, who won it last year, was not in the frame this year to challenge either the captain or the vice captain. Can Clarke edge out Ponting, in all aspects?
