New Zealand cricket was thrown into peril following news not only of the controversy of the New Zealand cricketers speaking up against the New Zealand, Andy Moles, but also, of the following of Moles’ resignation.
New Zealand media was abuzz with reports of the New Zealand cricketers who spoke of how they felt let down by the coach who they felt had little to offer by way of tactical advice. While New Zealand Cricket board immediately issued a statement stating they had full faith in Moles, two days later, Moles handed in his resignation letter.
Moles had taken over from John Bracewell when a similar situation of stagnancy forced Bracewell out of the role less than a year ago. Moles did not lose sight of the fact that previous coaches including Steve Rixon had come up against the players and fell flat. Moles parted with a hint that perhaps the New Zealand cricketers had become too authoritative about how things should be run.
Moles emphasized that he held no grudges against any one but expressed disappointment that the players did not choose to vent their grouse face to face with him so that they could have arrived at a better situation, as now New Zealand will go to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for an ODI and Twenty20 series against Pakistan with Daniel Vettori donning the coach’s hat as well.
