The South African coach is calling the shots. And he does not want his boys to get any friendlier with the England counterparts, even those with South African lineage.
Mickey Arthur felt that there was too much of a friendly atmosphere going into England’s tour of South Africa. And the coach wants the players to cut it out!
In perhaps a reference to a similar criticism of the Australians who toured England for the Ashes this year (Hollywood actor Russell Crowe made the remark on air about the Australians being far from ruthless and therefore, paying the price), Arthur does not want a soft South African team to turn up on the field.
He believes it is time to put the banter with Kevin Pietersen and lunch dates with Jonathan Trott behind and get on with the purpose on hand, that of beating the England team. He felt the mission was more on track after the second Twenty20 international in Centurion. But the team will have to build itself up for more such attitude if there are to make headway in the series.
