Ashes Century: Katich Thanks Bob Simpson

Amongst the Australians who have blunted England’s spirits on the second day of the first Ashes Test at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, was Simon Katich. But he wanted to thank another Australian great.
Katich and Ausralian captain Ricky Ponting scored centuries on a day that almost entirely went Australia’s way, except for the period when Graeme Swann was a on a role. Katich dedicated his century to a former Australian captain and opening batsman.
Katich acknowledged Simpson’s role in ensuring that Katich continued to represent Australia. Katich may have made his debut in 2000-’01 but it was after a topsy turvy career with plenty of ins and outs that Katich made it back to the team during Australia’s tour to West Indies. Now he is in a senior position to help Australia overturn the result of 2005 when Australia tasted its first Ashes defeat in eighteen years, and on English soil.
