Ashes: Hurting Flintoff Wants to Do It for England
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jul 8 2009

Andrew Flintoff, England’s charismatic all rounder, is an angry man. But he is not angry at the England team or captain Andrew Strauss. Rather he is mad at himself, enough to get fired up against Australia.
Flintoff had missed the team bus on a bonding tour to Flanders Field, Belgium. It fuelled reports of his lack of control when it came to drinking and neither Strauss nor England coach Andy Flower mince words on what the all rounder ought to be doing in order to be in the England team, especially for the Ashes.
Flintoff is angry with himself for not showing more discipline and has vowed to come back strongly on the field against the Australians. And Andrew Strauss believes him. In Strauss’ opinion, Flintoff may be thirty-one (Brett Lee is thirty-two but pretty much the same reasons are being given) but given the spate of injuries, the fire in the belly is like a bush fire. Strauss stated that the months of rehabilitation would have created a few doubts but also, they would have fuelled the cricketer to push for his chances when the opportunity came along.
Strauss believes Flintoff’s body language suggests that he is frustrated and raring to go and the Australians could be the best opposition to take it out on as the first Ashes Test begins at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
