West Indies are chasing down a terrific challenge. But the problem is that they have just one wicket in hand and fifty-one more runs needed to overpower the hosts for the series.
The third Test in Perth has seen enough highs and lows and yet the drama has been stretched to a fifth day when West Indies will be attempting the unthinkable while Australia will feel they are in touching distance of a series victory.
After Australia were shot out for 150, with a sizable lead of 359, Narsingh Deonarine and Brendon Nash gave the West Indies a degree of respectability in the run chase. 82 for Deonarine and 65 runs for Nash ensured that the West Indies stayed on course in a 128 partnership for the fourth wicket.
Unfortunately the Australian bowlers made a concerted effort to ensure that the task would get increasingly difficult for the visitors, who were reduced to 308 for nine at the end of the fourth day’s play, still needing fifty-one runs to steal the series but with only one wicket in hand.
