West Indies were in huge trouble after being left frail on 134 for five at the end of the second day’s play at the Gabba even as Australia amassed 380 for eight declared.
Australia could afford to declare after Marcus North and Brad Haddin put on eighty-four runs for the sixth wicket and followed it with a strong fifty-eight run partnership for the eighth wicket between North who made seventy-nine runs and Nathan Hauritz scored a half century.
To make matters worse after Australia declared no less, West Indies lost their top five batsmen before the close of play, this after West Indies captain, Chris Gayle, and Adrian Barath scored forty-nine for the first wicket. Wickets fell quickly thereafter as West Indies were reduced to four down for sixty-three. Only Travis Dowlin has been able to weather the storm at the Gabba with an unbeaten forty. But a lot more and a miracle or two will be required for West Indies to find a way out of this one.
