Another controversy comes Indian cricket’s way. This time neither any player is involved, nor the BCCI, but it is spin legend Bishan Bedi’s turn to rock the news. Bedi, a former India player who spearheaded the spin attack during his time, has lambasted at former Indian Great Sunil Gavaskar for enjoying powers and committing mistakes without being accountable for them.

Blasting at Gavaskar, Bedi said that the former India opener wants glamour, position and financial gains but he does not want any accountability. He is power lusty.

The outlook magazine has quoted the blunt remarks of former India captain, Bedi. It was earlier rumoured that Gavaskar who is a prominent official of the seven-member coach selection panel had a big role to play in the rejection of Dav Whatmore as india’s future coach. It was also conjectured that Gavaskar wanted to fit in brother-in-law Gundappa Vishwanath for the same post.

Selection of a coach for the Indian side was a big drama, though no coach has been appointed till today. The entire drama started when Greg Chappel left the high-profile job as coach for the Indian side after the team’s world cup exit. Dav Whatmore showed his interest soon after and was considered to be the front-runner for the slot, but as speculations came out that Gavaskar was not in favor of Dav, the idea was sacked against Whatmore. Bedi’s comments followed this drama over the selection.

Former skipper Bedi blamed his former team-mate, Gavaskar for being a destructive and negative influence on Indian cricket rather than positive.

Gavaskar demands a lot of respect from around the cricketing world. This is the first time his name has figured in a controversy. Though how much influence Gavaskar had in coach selection panel, no one needs to be told.
