Australia’s woes became magnified after Brett Lee was ruled out the seven match India Australia ODI series altogether.
Brett Lee’s sore elbow that saw him only bowl half his quota of overs in the first match of the India Australia ODI series has now effectively ruled him out of the entire series!
It is such a disappointment because Lee has been a rejuvenated cricketer of late and his express bowling and handy batting have made him an integral member of the ODI side for Australia. He was hoping to make a Test comeback on the back of this series. It is also a disappointment from the TRPs and from the crowds perspective, even partisan Indian spectators who would want India to win but also, witness a good contest as well. With Brett Lee enjoying such popularity here in India, it would be akin to heartbreaking to see him go home.
Lee’s absence also opens up a little bit of the vulnerability for the Australian bowling, weakened by the lack of experience in Indian conditions. Lee may also not make it to the West Indies’ tour to Australia.
He now joins James Hopes, Tim Paine as players who made it to India only to go back disappointed, although Hopes’ injury has not been confirmed to rule him out yet. Ricky Ponting, the Australian captain, may develop a few grey hair strands by the end of the series the way the injuries are piling up.
