It was almost too easy for the Rajasthan Royals after the final burst from England’s Dimitri Mascarenhas to finish off the innings as they beat Middlesex Panthers by forty-six runs at Lord’s in what is considered Shane Warne’s last competitive match at the Mecca of cricket in this charity match.
Middlesex did not have an answer to Rajasthan’s challenge of chasing 162. Apart from Dawid Malan who top scored with thirty-four, attempts from Neil Dexter to push the innings early on with twenty-six runs, and Gareth Berg’s eighteen ball twenty-six in vain were the only other two knocks that deserved any merit mentioning.
Mascarenhas, not satisfied with the batting impetus, picked up two crucial wickets conceding just twenty-fours runs in his four overs. Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir made a successful return to the IPL team, by picking up three wickets that virtually ended the Middlesex journey even before it began.
It was a misfit match and only team on the day deserved to win the British Asian Cup, and that was the Shilpa Shetty owned Royals.
