Buchanan Believes Ponting can Avenge 2005 Ashes
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jul 3 2009

The Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, was disappointed that John Buchanan, Australia’s coach during the Ashes of 2005, took up a consultant role with England and the ECB ahead of the Ashes. However, Buchanan is only praise for Ponting, quite contrary to those stated by Jeff Thomson.
Buchanan believes that Ponting is smarting from the Ashes defeat of 2005, the only Australian captain to relinquish the Ashes in almost two decades. He believes Ponting is the captain of the ship and is in a commanding position to overhaul that disgrace. Ponting finds himself surrounded by the likes of an our of favour Brett Lee, Simon Katich and deputy Michael Clarke, who all featured when Australia were disgraced. He is of the opinion that Ponting has thrived as captain since then, and would be taking up this assignment in England with greater authority and confidence.
