The man who is writing on the future of the game has a grouse with a man trying to determine that future.
John Buchanan, in his latest dissection, “The Future of Cricket: The Rise of Twenty20” believes that former Indian batsman, Sunil Gavaskar, is not good for the future of the game. In his opinion, Gavaskar belongs to an older generation that resists change and therefore, not ideal to be sitting on the technical committee of the IPL.
Buchanan cited the instance where there was a conundrum about the number of foreign players in the team and in his opinion, the only logical thing was to play them. But Gavaskar and others on the technical committee were not willing to add more than four foreign players to any IPL team.
Buchanan described Gavaskar with the following words, “What this means is that any ideas that affect the way T20 might be played are referred to a committee chaired by a person who is blinkered by bias and tradition.”
