The ICC Champions Trophy preparations are hotting up, not least of all the pitch.
In keeping with the ICC’s determination to keep the one day game alive perhaps, the curators at Centurion and Wanderers are promising to prepare run belters to suit the unsatiated spectators.
While this means a run feast is on the cards and a tiring grilling for the bowlers, the ICC Champions Trophy has plenty of unpredictables as well, no less the winners.
Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, has been talking about Pakistan setting sights on new territories to conquer after the ICC World Twenty20 in June in England. This would also mean immediate eyes on the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa which Pakistan, like England, has not won before.
In fact, India, who appear in good rhythm, shared the trophy back in 2002 with Sri Lanka while the tournament has thrown up new winner every time in its five editions thus far with South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand and lately Australia have the tournament comprehensively.
The suspense is what the ICC is banking on.
