It is amazing what victory can do! India’s rise to the top spot has certainly caused a rethink for the BCCI as the South Africa’s tour of India will now see two Test matches.
Just a few days back, the full tour was scrapped retaining merely the ODIs stating a packed schedule of 2010. Now the BCCI was forced to think about the demand by the likes of the Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and Sachin Tendulkar for more Tests.
Now the adjustments have apparently been made with South Africa as well and now the series is expected to see three ODIs and two Test matches.
But was it merely the demand of the players or were there vested interests as well?
After all, the more number of Test matches India plays, it stands a greater chance to retaining the top spot, although it will be tough against the preceding holder, South Africa. But another bigger factor to contend with is the fact that revenue could see a spike given India’s recent status as the no.1 ranking ICC Test cricket nation, giving a boost to the insipid response to the Test series against Sri Lanka.
