Lalit Modi have to accommodate a strange request from the IPL 2 Winners.
The Super Eights of the CL T20 get underway but it will only feature two of the three IPL teams participating in the competition. The picture above is of a joyous Hyderabad Deccan Chargers team that won the IPL 2. But there is a catch.
The Deccan Chargers could not win a single match at home during the inaugural IPL and suffered further in the points table as a result of it. With the IPL 2 shifted to South Africa, the Chargers lived up to their name and raced away to the title and looked like the champions, unlike the bleak season before.
Once again, the Champions League Twenty20 returned to India and so did the Deccan Chargers’ woes. The CL T20 once again has shown the Deccan Chargers in a poor light as they lost both their matches to the Somerset Sabres and the Trinidad and Tobago to bow out sooner than expected. That too at Hyderabad! Perhaps Hyderabad is a jinxed venue and one that the Deccan Chargers, as Adam Gilchrist said, will have to move.
It could have been worse still had the Delhi Daredevils not beaten Wayamba comprehensively and the Royal Challengers Bangalore roared on Jacques Kallis’ all round performance to make it to the Super Eights stage.
At one stage, it certainly looked like the cup was more empty than full for Lalit Modi’s Diwali dreams.
