Drama ensued once it was tipped off that one J and K cricketer was involved in a bomb scare at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The first of two matches on Diwali day, the Super Eights match between Cape Cobras and the Victoria Bushrangers in the Champions League Twenty20 Super Eights was stalled as police personnel swept the entire stadium after Pervez Rasool, an under 22 cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir staying at the KSCA ( Karnataka State Cricket Association) complex, was arrested with suspected residue of explosives claimed to have found in his bag.
While the J and K officials remained indignant and Rasool eventually released “for want of incriminating evidence”, the foreign teams from Australia and South Africa reluctant to leave their hotel made a late decision, leaving the game to start 1 hour 40 minutes later.
One has to wait to see if the match will actually start at the scheduled hour, but there will be many questions asked, especially if Rasool was singled out for no fault.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are expected to take on the Delhi Daredevils in the second match tonight.
