CL T20 S8 5: Daredevils No Match For RCB

The delay ensuing from the bomb scare that delayed the first match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru failed to dampen crowds who did not return home disappointed.
While the Royal Challengers Bengaluru were out of the reckoning for the Champions League Twenty20 semi finals, the Delhi Daredevils needed to win this game on Diwali Day in order to have a chance to go further in the tournament.
But Virender Sehwag’s forty-seven runs from twenty-nine balls was not enough to carry the Daredevils into the semi final. His lone innings of worthwhile batting against Anil Kumble’s three wickets meant that Daredevils were walking the tightrope with 138 runs aagainst the total tally.
While the Daredevils were lucky early on in that Manish Pandey was forced to retire hurt with a runner being denied as per the rules where the umpires will not allow a runner for cramps and Robin Uthappa falling cheaply to Dirk Nannes, they had no answer to New Zealand’s Ross Taylor partnered by Rahul Dravid in front of RCB’s home crowds.
Taylor’s sixty-five runs from thirty-four balls were a trashing affair accompanied by Dravid’s thirty-two from twenty-six balls. The RCB team needed just 15.1 overs to overhaul Daredevils’ target to deny them a spot in the semi final.
