It’s official. Michael Clarke and Lara Bingle have called off their engagement. And the Australian vice captain will be returning to New Zealand to join the Australian team. But there may be a matter that needs to get unstuck.
Australian newspapers are claiming that emergency plumber services were called in in the middle night and speculation is rife that bikini model, Lara Bingle, may have flushed the $200,000 engagement ring down the drain.
The lavish spending was a part of their lifestyle with Clarke even gifting Bingle $250,000 Aston Martin to the astonishment of many even before the engagement.
While there may be a slim possibility that the ring is recovered, that the engagement makes the end of a relationship is no small matter as a public statement to the effect has been announced. Their joint campaign for the Synergy drink has naturally gone bust.
Clarke’s participation in the cricket season was thrown into doubt after he flew back to Australia after the nude photo scandal involving Bingle and her former flame, AFL star, Brendon Fevola made the rounds. While earlier reports suggested that the couple were working on their relationship, it had apparently reached a point of no return.
Some former Australian cricketers are secretly happy for the couple’s decision to split, believing it is in Clarke’s best interests to have a less intense affair with the media as a result of his high profile status with Bingle on the lines of Victoria and David Beckham. They think it will bring back focus on Clarke’s ability as a future captain, even as many questioned his decision to quit the Australian tour to New Zealand mid way.
