CT Ind V Pak Half Time: Mallik Century Takes Pakistan to Strong Total
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Sep 26 2009

Pakistan showed a strong, steady hand in controlling the innings even as India rested too early thinking the job was done at Centurion in the Group A clash in the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa.
Pakistan threatened to make a thrilling start and they nearly pulled it off. Imran Nazir showed the early boil as did Kamran Akmal and even Pakistan captain Younis Khan. However, the early part of the story unravelled after Ashish Nehra managed to get rid of both openers and R.P. Singh set back Younis Khan. From a great start, Pakistan fell to three down for sixty-five and it was not particularly great bowling but rather Pakistan’s impetuosity that got the better of them.
Matters became more sedate in the innings thereafter, India would have thought sanity restored, but in the seemingly sedate, a great Pakistan innings was fashioned.

Shoaib Mallik’s seventh ODI century formed the foundation of Pakistan’s 302 for nine total but it was his partnership with Mohammad Yousuf (eighty-seven runs) that yielded 206 runs from 196 balls that really had India napping.

The partnership was sure, silent, resilient and persevering and the runs thereafter trickled quickly and quietly that even India did not anticipated ending up chasing such an enormous total. When India did rise, the third power play was in session, and Pakistan batsmen fell going for shots they would take at the slog end. While it prevented Pakistan from making the target more colossal than it is, India will have to hold their nerve, face the in form Pakistan bowlers with more audacity if they are to retain their reputation for beating Pakistan in ICC tournaments.
