CT PAK v WI Full Time: WI Bowlers Put Pak Under Duress
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Sep 23 2009

Pakistan’s match against the West Indies was like a story of when mercury meets mercurial. There would be no easy ending to this match as the Pakistan batsmen were pegged by some good West Indian bowling.
The first match of Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa saw Pakistan seal the deal against the West Indies but after a great deal of patience in their batting. Pakistan lost both their openers to Tonge before the innings break.
But matters began to grow more favourably in West Indies favour after Gavin Tonge picked up a couple more wickets before David Bernard made his mark with the wicket of Misbah ul Haq, leaving Pakistan perilous at seventy-six for five.
While it gave the West Indies something to fight for, there was always the perceptible danger that Pakistan’s Mr. Jekyll could be surfacing. But for the enterprise of young Umar Akmal, younger brother of Kamran Akmal, steadied the ship, held his nerve, stayed positive in his own words, and with his unbeaten forty-one runs, have the stand in captain Shahid Afridi a chance of beam.
