CT PAK v WI Preview: Shahid's Moment to Shine
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Sep 23 2009

Shahid Afridi ended the last ICC event, the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England, on a high note. Now he has the opportunity to lead the Pakistan team to their first win in the ICC Champions Trophy against a West Indies team that really come in with no expectations.
Pakistan perhaps would have suffered more against a tougher opposition by the loss of their regular captain, Younis Khan, who is sitting out with a hairline fracture to his finger. But Shahid Afridi now steps up in his place in a match that really Pakistan should win comfortably as Group A begins with a clash between Pakistan and the West Indies at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

The industrial dispute unresolved, West Indies are once again led by Floyd Reifer who will have to make do without the services of Kemar Roach who is on the injured list. Darren Sammy should give the team some respectability even as Reifer is hoping that the current West Indies team being a largely unknown quantity, his team will be able to spring a surprise or two. Against the Pakistan outfit, it may be a little tough.
And for those Mohammad Asif fans, there is disappointment as apparently the Pakistan team is jostling in their mind where to bring him into the picture of the playing eleven yet.
