CT Teams Group A-Pakistan: Need the Trophy to Get the Stamp of Approval
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Sep 20 2009

Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, wants to win the ICC Champions Trophy for the late Bob Woolmer. Can they pull off a second time this year?
The Pakistan team won the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England on the back of the heroics largely of Shahid Afridi. In the immediate aftermath, Younis Khan not only announced his retirement from the Twenty20 team but also, stated that the team had won the match on the emotions of doing something for the late Pakistan coach.
It is not simply a matter of whether Pakistan use Mohammad Asif or if Pakistan have made a mistake by leaving out Abdul Razzaq.
Now Younis wants to include Woolmer in his motivational plans yet again. But perhaps there is something for Pakistan cricket that the flame burns brightly for. There is a need for Pakistan not only to get the international exposure having missed out on cricket at home but also, raise the profile of Pakistan cricket for other teams to consider it worthwhile to play more with them. Things have not been easy on that front, but perhaps Pakistan’s performance on the field has a pressure beyond it.
