Sri Lanka are quickly joining India and South Africa on the crude ‘chokers’ tag list. It is essential for Sri Lanka that not only are they made for the finals but also, for the victory podium.
It will not be easy but Sri Lanka owe it to themselves to make big amends after finishing up on the runners up list a little often, the Compaq Cup and the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 being the latest amongst them.
Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lankan captain, has a crack outfit in terms of all round talent. With veteran Sanath Jayasuriya leading in all round talent, Sangakkara has no shortage of powerhouse performers in Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera, Tillekeratne Dilshan and Thilan Thushara, or the likes of Ajantha Mendis, Angelo Matthews, Nuwan Kulasekara or Muttiah Muralitharan. However, they have not been able to overcome the final hurdle.
Sri Lanka will need to go through the paces again first before even getting to the final to prove themselves right, but getting there is not past them.
