Certainly, today is the darkest day in the history in Indian cricket. Former BCCI & ICC President Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya is expelled for financial irregularities during the 1996 World Cup.
It was Saturday, when the meeting of the BCCI held in the northern city of Jaipur concerning the charges alleged against him. He entered the Rambagh Convention with his advocate Prakash Aggarwal carrying documents. The members of BCCI did not even read the document presented by him, and made the resolution to expel him for life-term from any of the posts of Cricket Board.
However, he has been given the right to appeal after three years for inclusion in the Board, BCCI Media Committee member Rajiv Shukla said after the meeting.
The treasurer N Srinivasan revealed, that only 273 vouchers were only collected from the Indian Overseas Bank in Kolkata, which showed the financial irregularities against him.
Dalmiya was accused and is found guilty for making a fraud of Rs. 42 crores from the PILCOM account, which was being operated by him. Reports said, Dalmiya used the money for personal interest, which was to be used for the 1996 World Cup hosted by the sub-continents India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The case of misappropriating the funds by Dalmiya was into consideration from the past one year. Despite of many opportunities given to him, he never attended any of the meetings held earlier. He was asked to give the details of the concerned account, which he didn’t present even on Saturday.
Rajiv Shukla said, ‘The members voted against him overwhelmingly. It was a sad end to Dalmiya’s career as a cricket administrator’.
It was a right decision against Dalmiya as he involved in the biased selection for the players in the Indian team. He misused his post of president and made several adverse decisions regarding the selection. Earlier, he was into light for selecting Sourav Ganguly, when he was not in form.
He should not be given the chance even the right to appeal after three years for inclusion in the Board as this will put a bad impression on the BCCI members and will lead India into a big controversy all over the world.
