The Indians are still licking their wounds. Their skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, concerned about the lack of string of partnerships. But Daniel Vettori could not have asked for a better mood in the dressing room, or of a team!
The New Zealand skipper was frustrated about his team coming close to surpassing the Australians and yet finding themselves short on several occasions when they recently toured Australia for the Chappell Hadlee series. He would have been a little concerned about self belief within the team.
But two thumping Twenty20 victories (despite the fact that they made heavy weather out of the second) against the Twenty20 World Champions, would have given his team a world of confidence for the upcoming one day internationals (ODIs) beginning on Tuesday.
But Vettori’s and coach Andy Moles’ strategy would have been fortified by the fact that Jacob Oram and Jesse Ryder have both come through injuries and now in a position to claim their respective spots in the New Zealand line up. Added to that, Vettori will also have another fast bowling option in the form of Ian Butler who comes back into the side. And if his name sounds familiar, it is because he featured in the Twenty20 matches against India and also, was part of the New Zealand time five years ago!
