All the way through his umpiring career, Hair has been a controversial figure who feels that he was made to bear the blame for others.

Presently, suing the ICC for alleged racial discrimination and being barred from officiating major international matches following his actions in last year’s ball tampering and forfeited Oval Test match between England and Pakistan, while his co-umpire Billy Doctrove of the Caribbean escaping censure.

Further ongoing suggests that his life has again been made a hell as ICC lawyer Michael Beloff accused Hair of trying to pressurize the body into paying him off by threatening to go public with allegations of racism, in the wake of a controversial decision against Pakistan.

Beloff took the Australian through emails he sent in the immediate aftermath of the Oval Test, in which he demanded a non-negotiable payment of $500,000 to stand down as an international umpire.

Responding to the allegations Hair said,

I believe I was just making an offer. I regret sending e-mails, but I was not trying to blackmail my employers.

However, if the allegations prove so, Hair should severely be dealt in with. A man responsible for his own downfall, as majority of the prominent incidents have involved Asian nations, leading to accusations of bias.
