In his heydays, Allan Donald used to torment batsmen worldwide. Even after his retirement, the former South African pacer will continue to make life difficult for the batsmen in his new avtar as the bowling consultant for England.
According to reports, Donald will work with the English bowlers on a short-term basis and will function as consultant for the last two Test matches against the West Indies and the ODI series that follows.
Donald initially eyed the full-time bowling coach’s job in case the current bowling coach Kevin Shine was shifted to the academy.
He said
I would love to do that job - it’s a very high-profile job. With all the talent there is in England it will be fantastic to work with that.
Donald’s appointment is being hailed by the cricket fraternity in England, which feels the timing could not have been better as England spearhead Steve Harmison is struggling for rhythm. There can not be any doubt on the credential of Donald, who has 330 Test wickets and 272 ODI wickets under his belt,.
Blessed with searing pace and unerring accuracy, Donald was the first South African bowler to take 300 Test wickets.
