Someone ought to tell Rahul Dravid not to start a statement with “If I have to be honest with myself…” because for a conscientious guy like Dravid, one tends to believe every words he lets slip is the truth, even when he cut a poor shadow of himself.
Rahul Dravid cut a picture in complete contrast to his Karnataka team mate and former India captain Anil Kumble. While Kumble was visibly and vocally critical of the media speculation over player retirements, Dravid stated that it was expected given that he had not really produced the runs or the innings that justified a man in his position and of his stature. He felt it was fair to speculate when a cricketer was not pulling his weight.
Dravid also spoke of the fact that he tried not to “complicate matters” and avoided the video analysis and only worked in the nets to see where he was going wrong. An uncomplicated man with a straight forward perspective, clear thinking and realistic ambitions and one who can take criticism in his stride, is Dravid too good to be true?
