ECB Mull Flintoff's Rejection of ECB Contract for Freelance Twenty20 Deals

Andrew Flintoff may not have intended to become the bad boy of England cricket so soon after retiring. But by rejecting the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)’s incremental contract, he is showing that he intends to make more of his cricket talents beyond England’s shores and on his terms.
Flintoff’s case is repeatedly showing similar signs of going the Andrew Symonds way. Symonds, who stated that he would only make a comeback on his own terms, appears to have his voice being echoed by the England all rounder, who like the Australian all rounder, feels he is at a stage where he does not need to be dictated to as to how much cricket he should be playing.
Flintoff is hoping that by rejecting the contract, it will free up his time and commitment to play Twenty20 matches for other teams in different cricket playing countries such as Australia and South Africa.
Although the IPL governing committee passed a resolution to the effect that all players must necessarily have their respective board’s NOC (Non Objection Certificate), that the ECB gave it last year to the England cricketers such as Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood as part of a two year deal means that Flintoff, currently based in Dubai for recuperation, will not have immediate trouble in the 2010 IPL 3 season.
But it could pose problems thereafter. But for the moment, Flintoff is grateful that the ECB is picking up the medical tab, he vows commitment to the England ODI and Twenty20 teams but also, intends to pursue a unique role of a freelance cricketer in what he says to become “the best one day and Twenty20 player in the world.”
The ECB do not want to appear rash and intend to oversee all aspects before tackling Flintoff.
