It appears that Cameron White has stamped his name on this ODI series between England and Australia. He was at it, once again, standing in the way of England and an ODI victory in the third ODI match at the Rose Bowl.
Australia got off the blocks rather slowly and it certainly gave England a sense of control, defending a target of 229. Australia’s early struggles were emphasized by the uncharacteristic innings from Shane Watson, making just seven from nineteen balls before becoming James Anderson’s first wicket of the night.
From one down for sixteen in the fifth over, Australia crawled their way to fifty-two before Tim Paine became the next wicket to fall for twenty-nine.

England were beginning to look like they knew they had the game in their hand. But hang on, Cameron White has bailed out Australia and given them fighting chances in the two games that the visitors have won.
On this occasion, White hit upon a quick, steady partnership with the stand in Australian captain, Michael Clarke, a partnership that lasted 143 runs and thirty overs to shake England’s confidence.
They did take their chances and a missed run out and a dropped catch later, Australia were well past the blues of the early wickets and edging closer to victory with wickets in hand. England appeared to lack self belief and it showed in the field in that rather lackadaisical efforts.
White’s patience and perseverance paid off in the form of a fine maiden century for him even as Clarke made a valuable half century himself as Australia looked comfortable from a run a ball at the 100 runs required mark to a comfortable win with nine balls to spare.
Australia are now in a formidable position at 3-0 nil and four matches to go. Every match will be do or die for England from here on, and if they did not find their winning patch, it could all be over by Saturday. What a turn in fortunes!
