Former Australian fast bowler and cricket commentator Damien Fleming has come out in criticism of John Buchanan and his theories and slammed the extended role of the coach.
Damien Fleming expressed concern that the coach may be exceeding his role more than what was required. He stated,”A coach’s job ends when the toss is out and the game of cricket begins. It can become rather dangerous if he starts to interfere with the on-field activities...I still rather have one man, the captain of the team calling all the shots and leading his team. There is no room for experimentations after a point.”
He also defended the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath who criticized Buchanan for his multiple captain theory, “We believe in playing the game of cricket without too much fuss and alterations. After all, the game is still about batting, bowling and fielding.”
