The Pakistan Sports Minister believes the Pakistan cricketers have suffered a deliberate snub with the IPL 3 omission.
Aftab Shah Jillani alleged that “flimsy reasons” were put forth to not allow Pakistan cricketers to play in the IPL 3 season. The Pakistan cricketers were denied after failing to procure visas.
But there is a feeling that the snub was deliberate and he raised the question why the Indians showed interest in talking to the cricketers when they did not really want them to play. He wanted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to stop expecting favours from the Indian board, BCCI, and to not seek any such issues in the future.
The Pakistan Twenty20 captain, Shahid Afridi, has also expressed disappointment that the Indians did not do enough to ensure that the Pakistan cricketers could play in IPL 3 after missing out on IPL 2. He stated that Pakistan was always “supportive of Indian cricket” but the reciprocal does not seem to be the case.
While the Pakistan sports minister called it an “insult”, Afridi chose to look upon it as an opportunity for Pakistan to prepare for the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean to defend the title they earned in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 edition in England.
