Geoffrey Boycott, former English batsman, is against the coming back of England team to play the two test matches against India. More than the security of the team, he has put forward moral issues being in picture after the Mumbai strikes.
As per the reports in the Daily Telegraph, Geoff is more concerned about the grief of the families who have lost their loved ones. he has shown his humanitarian side by questioning the decision of the ECB to send the team again to play calling it a monstrous decision.
As per him the feeling of bravado of not letting the terrorist win is appreciated but the wound is still too raw.How can a country which is burying its 200 even think of any thing else leave aside cricket.
Geoff is of the opinion that sport is supposed to be enjoyable, entertaining and essentially fun all of which is not possible in current situation in India. The two situations London Bombing in July 2005 when Ashes took place despite everything and Mumbai Strikes in India in Nov 2008 are totally different.
But this Boycott all by Geoffrey has ruffled some feathers in the International Cricket Council like David Morgan is clearly irritated by the logic of give India more time to mourn. s per him the implications of even postponing the matches will be financially far reaching.
He lashed out at British journalists when they suggested that the tour should be postponed clearly stating that he would not take any such thing from any Indian or Australian journalists,so how can he take it from British journalists.
The security of the team is of prime importance and the ECB has sent Reg Dickason, the ECB security consultant to inspect the security arrangements who by the way appears to have cleared the path of return of England Team.
India’s contribution to the world of cricket is very important and it would be disastrous for India if it is declared unsafe for world cricket.
It seems that ICC President and Geoff Boycott are both are on very different planes. One is concerned about the monetary aspect as well as the future aspect of holding matches in India if these matches are postponed, while the other is more concerned about the loss and grief of a nation torn by terrorist strike.
Wonder who is more right and who is more wrong?
