Harmison Fears for Integrity of Umpires
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Feb 10 2009

Steve Harmison was perhaps being sour grapes over the issue but he certainly feels that the referral system is likely to undermine the men in white more.
Harmison tasted the referral system’s verdict first hand when Ramnaresh Sarwan asked for it after Harmison felt he had trapped him lbw, a decision agreed by the on field umpire Tony Hill. But the television umpire, Daryl Harper, reversed the decision because in his opinion, he was in doubt about whether the ball was hitting the top of the stumps or not.
Harmison was clearly displeased as Sarwan went on to score a century in a double century partnership with the West Indies skipper Chris Gayle and was part of the team that rubbed dirt in England’s face, metaphorically speaking of course, after England had done a similar take, getting West Indies all out for forty-seven at Sabina Park, Jamaica, as Harmison himself picked up great figures of seven wickets and conceding just twelve runs not unlike Jerome Taylor.
While Harmison wrote in his column that he now knew how West Indies must have felt after that humiliation, he is still adamant that the television umpire had bowled the on field umpire with a no ball. Well, if there is a doubt, the benefit should go to …., should we let Harmison fill in the blank?
