Virender Sehwag, the Indian opener with dashing style, who keeps his mind completely free when he is on the batting side on the pitch, while humming songs, bhajans, especially Sai Baba’s, and also those featured on a Bollywood star as he is a fan of the super star Amitabh Bachchan humming his songs sung by Kishore Kumar, has challenged the mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis of SriLanka.
On the eve of the Team India’s departure for Srilanka for an ODI series, the very vocal Sehwag surprised everyone by saying that after studying the style of Mendis, be it an off-spin, googly or middle finger push, he is now able to play off each ball of Mendis successfully and was confident of hitting boundaries.
Mendis style of keeping three to four fielders close to the batsman means there is enough open space to hit boundaries and Sehwag just wants to do that.
Telling the Bowler that his style has been studied and completely unravelled will naturally be an attempt to demoralise the bowler and Sehwag is trying to do just that.
Apart from that, Sehwag is a batsman for whom win is the only thing that matters, even hitting a double ton is not so exciting as winning a match for the team.
With that perspective with more players, team India should be able to overcome.
