Michael Hussey becomes the latest Australian cricketer to turn down the second season of the IPL. Could his slump be the real reason and not rest?
Michael Hussey was signed on by the Chennai Super Kings during last year’s auctions and while most of the Australians were available for only four matches at best, Chennai did not hesitate to sign on one of the world’s finest craftsmen and finishers of the game.
It now appears that Hussey has declined to participate in the second season of the IPL citing lack of rest in a busy international cricket schedule for Australia. With attrition hitting high, he follows skipper Ricky Ponting who will also miss this year’s IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders, and could have significantly added to the captaincy chaos with Sourav Ganguly and John Buchanan.
It will also mean a second blow for Chennai after Jacob Oram’s injury is keeping his chances of participating in the IPL hanging in the balance.
With Michael Clarke proving to be a late pull out in the contest and Mitchell Johnson concentrating only on Australia’s international assignments, apart from the young rookies in the Australian camp or near discard veterans such as Andrew Symonds and retired men in Glen McGrath and Adam Gilchrist could represent Australia in South Africa.
