While the Indians are raring to go in the Test format having achieved the no.1 status, not everyone is convinced they are in for the long haul. Former Australian captain, Ian Chappell, is one of them.
Chappell has gone on record to state that he does not think India have the wherewithal at the moment to hold onto the ICC Test rankings for a significant period of time, perhaps referring to Australia’s dominance.
In Chappell’s own words, it takes more than an explosive opening pair to win Test matches and in his opinion, India lacks a quality hunting pair which could prove their downfall. He even states, that they do not have even a single quality bowler yet in their ranks to be able to hold onto the tag.
Points noted hopefully by the Indian team management, coach Gary Kirsten and newly appointed bowling coach, Eric Simons, who will look to change their perception in quick time.
