Pakistan may have won the ICC World Twenty20 champions tag. But it has not helped convince the ICC that Pakistan should be represented at the 2011 World Cup albeit with a neutral venue.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has been locked in a desperate battle to ensure that at least the Dubai and UAE become venues that represent Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup. Pakistan was of course ruled out following the aftermath of the terrorists attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in March. With virtually no international cricket in Pakistan in over a year, even the Champions Trophy in September has now been awarded to South Africa.
However, the ICC is adamant that a fifth country (other than co-hosts India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) will not be added to the 2011 World Cup. Their reluctance primarily stems from the other co-hosts feeling that the inclusion of the UAE will take away from the sub continent theme of the 2011 World Cup.
It is a blow to Pakistan, one they are not likely to take easily.
