With less than a week for the commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa, ICC is still hoping for a miracle so that West Indies can field a full strength squad.
The talks between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) do not seem to be yielding anything of substance yet. In the mean time, the WICB had introduced a weakened squad for the ICC Champions Trophy led by Flod Reifer.
However, with the ICC heavily banking on the one day tournament in South Africa to reignite passions for the one day game by fielding a tightfisted contest amongst the world’s top cricket teams, the position of the West Indies cricket threatens to undermine their efforts.
Supposedly the official broadcaster, ESPN Star, is also on the same page as the ICC in hoping that the West Indies will be able to make a quick switch of teams, although the named team is already in training in South Africa, so that all teams can turn up at their best.
