ICC World Twenty20: India Clobber Ireland
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Jun 12 2009

It was hardly the work out India would have liked ahead of the Super Eights. But once again it showed just how emphatic the Indians have been.
Indians were left chasing a modest target of 112 as Ireland capitulated rather like novices against an Indian line up that did not put a foot wrong. Zaheer Khan was the chief destructor as his four wickets, at least three of them, were crucial blows that severely dented Ireland’s capabilities. Left with little on the score card, only a late finish from Andrew White for twenty-nine runs saw Ireland cross the 100 run mark. Their defiance, whatever little there was, was completely destroyed by the eighteenth over.
Left with next to no challenge, once again the duo of Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir continued their opening stand that has been rather successful since its inception. While Gambhir made thirty-seven runs from thirty-one balls, Rohit Sharma hit a fine half century, one that practically left the Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni little to do as India finished the formalities in the sixteenth over.
