It may be true that Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan are nursing injuries that could put them out of the game. However, India still holds the best chance amongst the competing teams to bid for a successful run in the ICC World Twenty20 in England.
Australia have not been a team for the limelight lately. And it perhaps a case of dangerously undermining the team led by Ricky Ponting. The focus of talk from Australian quarters has been on the Ashes that follow the second Twenty World Cup and little on the Twenty20 tournament itself. However, that does not mean that Australia do not have the team to threaten the best in the world.
While most of the Australians have not competed in the IPL 2 in South Africa with national duty playing against Pakistan, they have been dealt a blow from within with Andrew Symonds being sent home over another alcohol related violation. Not that there is a dearth of talent in the Australian line up but only one Twenty20 specialist in a true sense in David Warner.
India continue to boast of the most balanced team in the tournament and with the team having shown their capabilities in the inaugural edition in South Africa in 2007, they are now certainly more experienced to take on the best with gusto.
The only other team that really appears to be in any kind of contention for the title is clearly South Africa. Not only have their players been extensively involved in the IPL 2 in South Africa, but with the tournament coming back to back to the IPL, their mind set will be fresh to entertain new ideas and it could be their best opportunity to take their team to the highest honour, something they are yet to achieve in any World Cup edition.
India may be a tired lot. But they will also know what it is to be crowned champions. The taste allow will ignite passions to chase the title once more. With the players have practised well in real match situations in the IPL, it is now time to turn the tables on the detractors who fear their demise and show them what they are truly worth, again!
