Pakistan’s temperamental nature will be tested in the semi finals of the ICC World Twenty20 in England. The Pakistan captain has a special motivation for the players.
Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, has been a reluctant leader in the Twenty20 game. However, through ups and downs, the team that made it to the finals of the first ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007, has come through to the semi final stage.
En route they had to beat Ireland in order to get to the final four stage. To Younis Khan, facing Ireland was reminiscent of the clash between the two teams in the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean which Pakistan lost badly and subsequently crashed badly out of the World Cup. But there was more tragedy to come in that their then coach, the late Bob Woolmer, was found dead in his hotel room the next day in mysterious circumstances. While the cause of his death has been not identified, Pakistan team went through tough times with the team itself also being treated as suspects.
Now Younis Khan felt that Pakistan had made amends for that defeat by beating Ireland in the Super Eights and the recollection brought back memories of a man he considers as a father figure. Out of respect for Woolmer, Younis Khan has stated that he was motivate the boys to make it to the final and dedicate it to Woolmer.
