The first fall out of the absence of Pakistan players in India and the global financial meltdown is the ICL which has cancelled its World Series for April.
The ICL had last year abandoned its ICL World Series midway when the terror strikes hit Mumbai last November. Now it appears that the terrorism has won part of the battle as Pakistan players tussled between their government’s directive not to go to India and also, the fact that most Indian domestic Twenty20 set ups (read IPL and ICL) were largely reluctant to bring back their Pakistan players in the prevailing climate.
While some players’ contracts have been cancelled, others have been suspended by the IPL. But the ICL has adopted a definitive stand of its own by canceling the series in March altogether knowing that the Pakistan contingent, comprising of players who played under the banner of the Lahore Badshahs would now not be available, until there is a thaw in relations between the two nations.
As of now, the winter challenge stands as committed, while the summer will see the absence as ICL begins to spend time at the grass roots, identifying talent for its pool while as engaging in conversations with the ICC over its status.
