Ind Aus ODI 3: Ponting Should be Happy to Win Toss
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Oct 31 2009

After a few bitter days, the Australian captain should feel comfortable batting first.
Australia suffered a massive ninety-nine run defeat in the second ODI in Nagpur for India to square the seven match India Australia ODI series one all.
Still stinging from that defeat, Ricky Ponting was furious that Australia’s practise session at Ferozeshah Kotla, New Delhi, was not to the team’s liking with the pitched being watered.
Kotla developed an infamous reputation during the Champions League Twenty20 where the pitch was slow, two faced and troublesome for all teams concerned. Virtually every match declared the team batting first a winner as the team batting second struggled to cope with the deteriorating conditions.
From that point of view, Ricky Ponting should feel that at least something has gone his way with the toss, and without committing the mistake of the last match when he decided to bowl first, had no trepidation in deciding to bat first.
Australia though have a lot of changes with Doug Bollinger replacing Ben Hilfenhaus, Brett Lee’s injury making room for Moises Henriques who replaces Shaun Marsh and Graham Manou making his debut with Tim Paine also flying home with a broken finger.
The Indian team remained unchanged.
