Responding to South Africa’s declaration, India lost three wickets rather early on day three of the first Test at the VCA in Nagpur, leaving Virender Sehwag to do the repair job.

Gautam Gambhir perished early, caught by the wicket keeeper, Mark Boucher, off Morne Morkel’s bowling for just twelve. From none for thirty-one to three down for fifty-six, India had lost the makeshift no.3, Murali Vijay, cleaned up by Dale Steyn.
Sachin Tendulkar was the biggest wicket of the day,another partnership between wicket keeper and bowler as Steyn grabbed his second wicket.
But Sehwag stood his turf with Subramaniam Badrinath as they guided India safely to lunch. Sehwag battled the early momentum and denied South Africa more reasons to rejoice hour after the lunch break. On the contrary, he gave the visitors some real headaches as he batted his way to a hundred with India looking much better at 178 for three.
