Ind SL T2: Dravid Becomes Fourth Highest Run Getter, Surpasses Allan Border
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Nov 25 2009

Rahul Dravid banged his bat against his foot in anger as he was run out through an unfortunate incident. But he had more than enough reason to be proud in Green Park, Kanpur, in the second Test against Sri Lanka as he became the fourth highest run getter in Test cricket, surpassing former Australian captain, Allan Border.
A straight hit aimed at the bowler from V.V.S. Laxman ended up brushing against the bowler’s hand before hitting the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Unfortunately Dravid was far out of his crease, and run out for 144 runs.
But Dravid had not only scored his twenty-eighth Test century, one more than Border and also, eight more runs than Border has.
Border took 156 Tests to reach 11,174 Test runs at an average of 50.56. Dravid reached 11182 runs in 136 Tests at an average of 53.50, making him the fourth highest run getter in Test cricket, behind Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting.

Here’s a look at the other top scoring men of all time:
Tendulkar - 161 matches - 12917 runs - average of 54.76
Lara -131 matches - 11953 runs - average of 52.88
Ponting - 136 matches - 11345 runs - average of 55.88

Apart from West Indies Brian Lara and Border, the other three of the five top scorers can continue to improve upon their individual records.
